Chocolate Cherry Smoothie

This has been my go-to smoothie when I need a sweet snack. It's only 350 calories for over 20 ounces! If you wanted to make it a meal, add a scoop of protein powder and another half cup of almond milk. You will have to adjust the calories acourdingly.

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (30 calories)
1 cup Dannon Oikos Triple Zero (170 Calories)
3 TBL spoons Chocolate Ovaltine (60 calories)
1 Cup Dark Frozen Cherries (90 Calories)

Combine all ingredients starting with liquids and ending with cherries. Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy.

Week 5

It has been brought to my attention by my Dr. that my cholesterol is up and I need to start taking medication for it. I was told it is not out of control so the pills are not a permanent thing if I change my diet and increase my exercise. I would rather work toward not having to take the medication at all if I can help it. I have done some research and I have found that in order to lower my cholesterol, I have to increase my fiber intake to 25 - 35 grams a day, eat a low-fat diet, and exercise. Being on this journey makes it easier for me to make adjustments to my diet. I have already learned that my vanilla protein powder contains a whopping 37mg of cholesterol. That’s too bad. I had just discovered protein powder and how it thickens up my smoothies perfectly. Natural eating is better anyway without any artificial powders so I am back to using frozen bananas. I lost 4 pounds this last week trying to figure out what I should and should not eat. I always have a hard time adjusting to any new changes to my diet. I found myself thinking "I just might have to starve to death" when I realized most of my favorite dairy products are out. Week 4: 334.4 lbs Week 5: 230.6 lbs Because I am still catching up to my last progress picture, I want to wait to post a new one. I really do not need to remind myself of my backslide. I know how hard I am having to work to get to the weight I had been. If I continue to eat right and continue exercising, I will post a picture at the beginning of February. Thanks for joining me this week. I will continue to post my progress as I can.

Week 4

My sister and I discovered how to challenge each other in steps using our Fitbit's. Turns out, my sister walks a lot more than I do working at the senior day care center. But we have used it as a good starting point to encourage each other to continue to improve ourselves. I am also learning that I can not take it too competitive or else I run the risk of pushing myself too hard and irritate my fasciitis. But I lost a pound this last week and I am getting better at remembering to record all of my meals. The evening are still hard for me because I have a household to care for and with Elizabeth being sick I am short an extra set of eyes on my Grandmother. My elliptical has helped add steps when I am having a hard time walking naturally.

I have also found a new passion for gardening. And with the weather so nice this last week, I have found myself out raking leaves and taking stock of what space I have for planting. We are still a few weeks out for any real gardening, but it was nice to get out in the fresh air and do some physical labor.

My goals for this week is to continue working on logging food and staying within my caloric intake of 2000 calories a day.

Weight for January 29 2017 = 334.4 pounds

Week 3

I wasn't very serious about weight loss this week. I didn't really loose anything, I didn't count my calories, and I didn't exercise. My sister, Drea, want's to do a walking challenge this week with our Fitbit's. It's called the Workweek Hustle and it starts Monday and ends Friday. I am not looking to beat her in this challenge, I am looking to simply keep up. She works on her feet most of the day so if I can keep up, I will feel pretty positive.

Kyle has been my biggest supporter. He is always trying to find ways to turn our favorite foods healthy. Like the turkey meatloaf, we had this week. Not only has the beef been replaced with turkey, but he adds zucchini as a filler instead of breadcrumbs. I’ll post the recipe this Wednesday in the recipe section.

I really like Fitness Blender. They have tons of fitness videos for all levels you can watch for free. There are workout plans you can take advantage of for a small fee. Unfortunately, the tablet I use to play my workout videos on does not support the FitnessBlender.com app. I can, however, watch them on Youtube. This is where I found the video that I feel is a good challenge for my weight and level of ability. It’s low-impact with no jumping making it easy on my joints and it's challenging enough that I struggle to get through the first 15 minutes of the workout.

So I have been having a hard time getting myself together and actually working toward my weight loss goals. I think I need to set myself some weekly goals. since I am getting back to the basics, I don’t think I need to start at square one, but I do need to refocus on calorie recording/counting. it’s a big part of why I am still above 300. So this week I want to focus on counting and recording every bite I put in my mouth and stay at or below 2000 calories a day.

That's it for this week. Please be sure to subscribe so you never miss an update. I am also going to try to put out a new recipe every Wednesday.

Coffee Banana Smoothie

The Healthy Coffee Banana Smoothie.

It has a slight coffee flavor but according to my sister, I brew weak coffee, so that might have something to do with it. If you want your coffee smoothie to taste like coffee, use a stronger brew. I could immediately taste the cinnamon and nutmeg, reminding me a little of Christmas. It’s creamy and cold I think this would be a great refreshment for those hot summer months.

Healthy Coffee Banana Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brewed coffee and chilled
  • 1 bananas
  • 1 cup nonfat plain greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 2 tsps honey (or agave nectar)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg
  • 6 ice cubes
Then just add to blender and let the blades do the work. I would also like to note that I used Chia seeds instead oflax seeded.

Losing my First 50 lbs

Hi, everyone! My name is Jessica and I am on a weight loss journey. Originally Beautiful Me was started as a way to find the beauty in myself. About 10 years ago, just after I had my son, I woke up. My life was a mess! It was like a light went on and I could see the destruction clearly. Obesity, poor hygiene, and depression had taken its toll and I didn't even know what was happening. I realized up until that point, I didn't care either. My teeth were a mess, I didn't even own a bra, and my "good" shirt had grease stains and the stitching had come undone.

It was really hard at first because I had forgotten how to take care of myself. I had to start back at square one. Everything seemed so overwhelming, I had to take it one step at a time. Short "To Do" lists helped. Things like take a shower and brush your teeth, were on it. I made sure I did them even if half of the day went by before I realized what time it was.

After counseling, a divorce, and losing my first 50 lbs I am starting to feel closer to myself.  I am still morbidly obese, but I am ready to tackle this part of my journey. I deleted the original content in this blog to give myself a feeling of a clean slate. I have been working on weight loss since my enlightening. I feel like I have too much information in my head and I am stuck in a cycle. I'm stuck in the mid 330's and I feel like I need to refresh my plan.

I hope that no matter what part of your journey you are on, you will follow me on mine. I hope my trials and successes inspire you to keep going. You can follow me on Instagram and Twitter.
